Description
As the name suggests, anything goes with Open Wide Music. Focused mainly on the classic sounds of rock & roll, OWM enjoys playing all styles of music. Chris Munro (guitar & vocals), James Lockhart (vocals, keyboard & guitar), and Matt Tweed Jones (drums), met each other in 1999 while attending Harris Institute, where they were studying music production. The band formed in 2001 with former bassist and fellow Harris grad, Andy Wright. Long time friend of the band, Sean Coleman joined Open Wide Music in 2005 to take on the band's bass playing duties.
The first 2 years were spent in a small apartment in downtown Toronto, where they continuously wrote, recorded and perfected their songs before ever stepping on stage together. Open Wide Music released their debut album, Versiun 01 in 2004. Recorded, mixed, and produced by the band members (remember they're well-trained and self-sufficient in this area), this recording captures the band exploring the many musical genres that have influenced them over the years. The recording also includes many guest performances by friends they met while in school, including fellow students, instructors, and even current member Sean Coleman can be heard singing harmonies on a couple of tracks.
Since the release of their debut album, OWM continues to evolve. Constantly writing and perfecting their songs, the band has been churning out new material for almost every show. And whether you find them putting on one of their popular Neil Young tribute shows with they're friends, or challenging each other with acoustic guitars, bass, and hand-drums at a backyard party, Open Wide Music is always working on something and they're always going to keep in interesting.
Right now, they are working on new recordings that are near completion. Expect another release in early 2007 along with a brand new website. But don't expect the same music! You can hear the new songs as they play at clubs in Toronto and around southern Ontario. 2007 is going to be a busy year for Open Wide Music so watch out!
