Description
New York-based digital artist, Bill Byrne, and his wife, Suzanne are the voices behind The Painful Leg Injuries. Last year his debut CD-R, "Backwards, Broken and Incorrectly", met with acclaim from fans and critics alike. Foxy Digitalis Chris Jaques said PLI threatens to rip apart the fibers that make up North American culture... play at your own risk. giving it an 8 out of 10. The Painful Leg Injuries are also known for their weekly podcast which was launched in 2005 and now has twice the amount of listeners than the average podcast. Every week they explore some new area of experimental electronic music and concept driven sound art.
Now with their second full length CD-R, "If The Devils In The Details, Then How Many Details Can You Fit Upon A Match?" The Painful Leg Injuries have integrated some bold experiments into their established melodic technique to yield an album that is both more experimental and more appealing than their previous releases.
On "Backwards, Broken and Incorrectly", Bill and Suzanne created ambient electronic music with a fractured, alien beauty, large haunting atmospherics and distinct, emergent melodies. On "If The Devils In The Details, Then How Many Details Can You Fit Upon A Match?" Bill decided to consolidate the approach to make music that was no longer content to stay in the background, a more aggressive assertive sound that grabs hold of the listeners attention. The Painful Leg Injuries refine their soundscapes into a busy, punk-fuelled version of world music from Venus.
Suzannes cello appears prominently in the albums opening track Every Minute of Everyday Someone Is Having An Apocalypse, a taut piece of classically inspired noise that builds to a cathartic release. Bill digs back to his hardcore roots with I Did Not Agree With the Prophets offering up a vision what Lightning Bolt would sound like if they added a laptop. Theyve also integrated several new elements such as Bills homemade Sensorlab feedback machines, field recordings, and instrumentation that includes trumpet, kalimba, melodica, autoharp, xylophone, accordian, and homemade rubber band stringed instruments. On A Complete Lack Of Charisma and/Or Talent they layer a simple phrase played on a variety of instruments to yield a dense fog of strangely beautiful sounds.
Along with the CD-R there's a DVD-R with six music videos. Featuring the directors Jonah Goldstein, John Ibarra, Matthew Lancit and Bill Byrne.
This CD-R+DVD-R release marks the latest major release from a new label run by Byrne and his longtime collaborator, Jonah Goldstein, OKS Recordings of North America. OKSRNA will specialize in limited-run artist created CD-R releases that create new and exciting directions for musical expression.
