Description
My music blends folk, blues and country, and mixes in a dash of whatever environment I'm currently surrounded by.
Growing up in North Carolina, my family was always playing music, and my desire to explore various styles was inspired by listening to such great artists as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Mahalia Jackson, Etta James, Otis Redding, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, and Nina Simone to name just a few.
While living in New York City, my music had an undeniably urban influence which now has quieted and expanded spatially because my home is now in Arizona where the sky is seemingly as wide as the world. I love the exploration of new sounds and styles, but throughout my journey the base elements of folk, blues and country are still planted firmly in the foundation where I write from.
My songs are created from moments in my own life either observed or experienced through relationships and are then expanded to create a sort of picture where these moments tell a story. I try to examine the different colors, shapes and movement within these moments and build a landscape or a song, which resonates an honesty for me.
