Description
Colorados newest and hottest up and coming band is proud to call northern Colorado their home. Set Forth is comprised of Steve Melton (vocals/keys), Jordan Bever (bass), Zach Shelley (drums) and Ryan Buller (guitar).
It began in 2005 when Steve Melton won the UNC Idol competition at the University of Northern Colorado. After performing, Melton was approached by Chris Kelly, Program Director and Morning Show Host from 96.1 KISS FM, and also one of the judges of the competition. They were asked to piece together a temporary band to perform at a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert, put on by Northern Colorado radio stations at the Budweiser Events Center. Melton and Tyler Ward locked up friends Jordan Bever, Zach Shelley and Jeff Hendricks complete the mix. The newly formed band played a spectacular show to a crowd of 750 people at an event that raised nearly $20,000 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
After the show, the then unnamed group of musicians decided to push on together as a group, seeing where their collective talents would bring them. From then on temporary quickly became success. Set Forth found itself performing all over the state, from winning awards at Battle of Band competitions in Northern Colorado and Denver, to earning opening slots for national recording artists such as the The Fray (Epic), The Veronicas (Warner), The Jonas Brothers (Columbia), and October Fall (Decay Dance/Fueled by Ramen). They headlined shows at various venues throughout Colorado and quickly turned into the it band for shows on college campuses. Their melodic sound and stage presence quickly turned the band into a crowd favorite. As often noted, people would not only leave the show more familiar with Set Forth, but also with a new favorite band. Kelly of KISS FM says, "This is one of the first local bands that I think understands the ingredients of a hit song. So many bands, when theyre in their infant stages, are either a death metal, scream into the microphone kind of band, or try too hard to be a Dave Matthews Band rip-off. In two words, Set Forth gets it, bottom line." Early in 2006 the band compiled their first EP and has had enormous sales success in the time it was available. Featuring the hit single Out of My Control, the EP included some of the original songs Set Forth gained popularity with over the short span they have been together, such as Love is Doing This and Gravity.
The band, however, was not to be without its changes. After just nine months of shows, concerts and rehearsals, guitarists Ward and Hendrick parted ways with Set Forth. Left guitarless, the band faced its challenges, yet, in a virtually seamless transition, they not only continued booking show dates, but rising to the occasion with catchy new songs, contagious new lyrics, and the drive to sustain their success. Theyve since added Ryan Buller on guitar, and now find themselves at a new peak level of performance, rapidly moving forward. Chris Carosa, an avid Set Forth follower recently noted, "As bad as change can sometimes be, I have never seen a band prosper and improve so much from it."
Set Forths most recent major show was October 1, 2006, at KISS FMs Fall Festival at Thunder Mountain Amphitheatre, featuring Teddy Geiger (Columbia), Josh Hoge (Epic) and Paula DeAnda (RCA/J).
A new EP is currently being recorded featuring a few old favorites as well as new hit singles So It Goes and Life Without You. Its release will be coming soon!
