Description
The Larry Winslow Project, "Haven't Been That Way", featuring Paul Ginther, is the culmination of lessons learned while living in Nashville, Tennessee. Its vibrant writer's scene, as well as some of the finest players in the world, have raised Larry's level of writing and playing, and have contributed to some of his best material to date. The vocals, mostly Paul Ginther's rich baritone, add a Luther Vandross silkiness to the James Taylor-ish tracks. "The idea behind this CD was to make music you'd like to hear while hanging out at someone's pool or if you had some people over for dinner and wanted music that would set a pleasant mood." At the same time he wanted to show his different guitar styles, from acoustic finger picking to jazz-rock-fusion electric leads. Trying to smooth out the highs and lows wasn't easy but the result is better than what he could have planned for.
During his stay Larry's written with some of Nashville's finest including Dave Loggins, Kris Bergsnes, Josh Stevens and Jess Leary. He co-wrote "In the Blink of an Eye" with Exile band member Mark Jones which appeared on their "Latest and Greatest" CD. He has a group of writers and producers who use him on their sessions but still makes the lion share of his income playing live, whether it's backing up other writers or doing his own material. As a guitar player he's worked for Epic artist Tammy Cochrane, MCA artist Robin Lane, Andy Pratt, Didi Stewart, The Drifters, Ben E King and The Shirelles. As a solo artist he has opened for Phoebe Snow, Pure Prairie League, Don McClean, Livingston Taylor and Carly Simon.
The songs in "Haven't Been That Way" reflect on the past, look inward, judge, escape, cope with and ultimately embrace life in the present.
