Description
When her dad wasn't flying fighter jets for the Swedish Air Force he played Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger tunes on his ol' guitar. One day he walked into a music store in downtown Stockholm and bumped into a lovely store Manager. Rita, daughter of noted Finnish composer Harri Bergstrom, and Sven Erik hit it off from the start. In 1963 Lena was born. Her dad taught her to play guitar early on, and she spent hours, in spite of not speaking English, singing Janis Joplin tunes and crafting her own songs, one of which was played on Swedish radio when she was only 12 years old. At this point she had moved from Sweden to Rome, Italy. In 1981 she came to the USA, and met drummer Bill Fahringer, who later became her husband. Together they formed Mighty Girl, an original pop/rock band, with bassist Bob Torsello, who's played and recorded with Glenn Mercer and the Feelies, Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye, and jazz legend David Amram. Last addition to the band has been guitarist Mark McNutt, like Bob, a gifted singer/songwriter in his own right. That's our story, and we're sticking to it!
