Description
St. Lukes Church of Barrington, RI is proud to announce the release of Rejoice Tonight, a seven-song cd of Christmas music recorded by the St. Lukes Contemporary Choir. Filled with traditional favorites, the disc neatly summarizes this groups commission: to take the churchs familiar hymns and recast them in a modern setting with instruments such as guitar, bass, piano and drums. Angels We Have Heard On High, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear, and the song Rejoice Tonight, written by choir director David Lauria and adapted from the Gospel of John, combine familiar lyrics with the sound of a Christian worship group. Proceeds from the recording will be donated to St. Mary's Assumption Church in New Orleans to help rebuild their pipe organ. St. Mary's, which is listed on the National Historic Register and is the second-oldest church in New Orleans, sustained over $1.5 million in damage during Hurricane Katrina.
