An Empty Space
Signal Hill Transmission
An engaging collection of beautifully played and exquisitely produced songs...Warren has a real gift for understated but memorable hooks. Still its the melancholy feel to the tracks that really pull you in. Americana UK

Description
Signal Hill Transmissions second full-length record, An Empty Space," was released in January, 2007. Once again, the boys recorded and produced the album themselves, working out of Front Page Recorders in Glendale, CA. Below are quotes about the band and their previous recordings. We'll post more as the reviews come in.
The SHT derive their name from one of the pioneering moments in the history of telecommunication the successful transmission of the first transatlantic radio signal, sent via Morse code from England to Newfoundland in 1901The Signal Hill Transmission draw on folk, pop and alt country influences and there are detectable traces of Scud Mountain Boys, Elliott Smith, and early Wilco amongst the songs. Scott Warren has a warm, involving and expressive voice and an intriguing and mostly somber inclination to his lyrics. Comes With A Smile
The boundaries of their previous work have now been blasted wide open and the results are stunningto die forworth its weight in gold in fact, brilliant Signal Hill Transmission is undoubtedly the most promising band I have heard in yearsThey have it all!
Alt Country Tab, UK
An engaging collection of beautifully played and exquisitely produced songs...Warren has a real gift for understated but memorable hooks. Still its the melancholy feel to the tracks that really pull you in. Americana UK
Scott Warren sings lines of loneliness and loss in a deliciously scratchy, versatile voicedrummer Scott Schoen, bassist Duane Rakestraw, and guitarist Mon Agranat are spot-on as well, each contributing to the albums sonic lushnessSignal Hill Transmission has, indeed, risen to the cream. Playback St. Louis, St. Louis, MO
Heavenly pop hooksSoaring and dipping with the grace of a looping kiteresembles a less synthesized Psychedelic Furs Warrens vocals compare to Richard Butlers, albeit without the gargling-with-gravel timbre and conjures the hook-laden swells of indie-popsters Kent and pre-stadium-tours Radiohead. Riverfront Times, St. Louis, MO
Maturing beyond but not losing sight of their rootsy beginnings, this L.A. band finds more potent use for their electric guitars than previous, crafting sonically rich passion rockIntrospective tones dominate as do sharp and creative arrangements. Miles of Music, Los Angeles, CA
A wholesome catchiness to it that never feels forced or trite. All of the tracks have a definite Signal Hill flavor to them. The overall feel is definitely indie-pop, but indie-pop with texture and sturdy craftsmanship. Even the simplest songs on the album have an interesting feel to them, by way of the chord choices and certain candor in the vocalsSuper catchy. Erasing Clouds
In a region populated more by transplants and transients than natives, the hummable songs of pop-rock band Signal Hill Transmission are easy to relate to, with themes of departures, arrivals and hopes for something betterwith snappy hooks and flowing harmoniesroad-trip anthems. Pasadena weekly, Pasadena, CA
Smart arrangements laced with bouncing drums, strumming guitars, and raspy vocals tinged with late night desperation and early-morning reflection. Fufkin
This L.A.-based four-piece trade in the same sort of hooky, roots-leaning rock that galvanized the Amerindie heyday of the late-80s. The harmonies of guitarist Scott Warren and drummer Scott Schoen recall those of the early Silos and Jayhawks, as do the bands searching meditations on falling in and out of love. Nashville Scene, Nashville, TN
