You Don't Have to Close Your Eyes
Eric Mattys
Let go of your literal linguistics to lie for electroshock libations, limping languid and alone. A melancholy mix of honest, intricate and at times frantic folk rock. You should listen to the last three songs.

Description
Rip through the randomness of the reality realm like a vacuum dirt bag laughing at a house wife. Forget flowers and fame in favor of flames. Die to live and live to die in short explosions of self destruction. Let go of your literal linguistics to lie for electroshock libations, limping languid alone. Telegraph timid contemplations for timelessness and the teams of torn. Disenfranchise from the diva drama delegating dollar-store tunes for those that dream more than they drool, for those that think more than they fool, and for those honest more than cool.
My name is Eric Mattys, and I make music that sounds the way I feel at two in the morning and I dont understand why Im still awake and the wind is howling at me reminding me that Im alone and that, no matter how many people surround me, I wont be able to change this. Im strongly influenced by Elliott Smith and Nick Drake. Whenever I try to write a song that is more upbeat it usually comes out sounding manic. I love Sonic Youth and the Velvet Underground, but Im still working on putting together a full band. I also like the mixed stylings of Tom Waits. I dont think I sound just like these folks, but if you like them you might also like my music.
I grew up in Colorado Springs. I went to school in Los Angeles. I live in Colorado Springs now because I can live here cheaply. Its very politically polarized here if youre politically inclined at all. You Dont Have to Close Your Eyes does not delve into this red-state blue-state division which has become so strong of late. The album is much more personal. Its my befuddlement with the nature of conscious existence, my momentary understandings of human connection and my complete confusion with the concept of the past. The title of the CD comes from seeing so many people who run away from the moments of melancholy in life. Think of how many people you know who turn to drugs or television or religion as a way of escaping. I know I have. With these songs I howl in the face of what ails me instead of trying to ignore it. And not all the songs are sad, heavy hitters. LA Orange Sunset is gentle and sweet. Whistler leans toward the pop side of the scale. You should give it a listen and decide for yourself.
I did all the recording and mixing myself. If youre in the Colorado Springs area and you want to record contact me at www.myspace.com/ericmattys. Im available most week nights and weekends. Its hard for me not to help a fellow artist.
