"Shiloes Please Remove Your Teeth From My Neck is their sophomore EP release, gearing up hopefully for a full-length LP sometime in 2007because six songs just leave the listener drooling for more." -Michael Schmitt (Music Emissions)
"L.A.'s Shiloe build on the momentum of their previous EP "Guardian Ear Of The Radio Nurse" with their new six song offering "Please Remove Your Teeth From My Neck" (another odd title choice). The focus of the trio's sound is still on the dirty fuzzed out guitars of Ken Ramos and the unique "tumbling" drum sound of Jenean Farris (a real strength), but there's also new elements this time out to keep it from getting stale. The band seem to have (re-)discovered 1980's British New Wave groups like The Cure, Joy Division and Echo And The Bunnymen and incorporated their dramatics and atmospherics heavily into their already potent Sonic Youth-meets-BRMC arsenal. I like the results this influx of influences produces... I like what these guys (actually two girls, and one guy) are doing and I expect them to keep making cool music while improving as they go along." -DAVID MANSDORF (Losing Today)
"Slightly psychedelic sounding melodic and slightly frazzled America indie rock of a rather confident Black Rebel Motorcycle Club meets X nature. Two girls and a boy from LA. Fuzztone riffs, droning guitars, theyre rather refined and rather good." -Organ Magazine
"It reminds me of something you would hear on KXLU in the early 1990's. Ya know the stuff you really had to look hard for in record stores because all the major releases sucked! All in all I really dig the disc. I can't wait to hear more!" - Nofi Magazine
"Some of The Best Stuff I've heard in a long time."
-Dave Freeman (Little Radio)
"The best rock band from L.A. since X"
-DJ Lizz (88.9 KBVR)
Shiloe was conceived in early 2005 through the magic of the world wide web. Comprised of three aspiring musicians who had grown tired, weary and disillusioned with the state of the Los Angeles music scene, Shiloe intends to invigorate listeners by creating uniquely intense songs and focusing on their music above all else. Just a few short months after the release of their debut EP, Guardian Ear of the Radio Nurse, their songs "The Rat" and "Lady in the Attic" have been receiving radio play on stations such as L.A.'s own Indie 103.1 and KXLU 88.9, LittleRadio.com, Soma.fm, KBVR in Corvallis, OR, WOZQ in Northampton, MA, KillRadio.org, Woxy.com, Mexico's Radio Alterno and the U.K.'s RadioNowhere, where "The Rat" was chosen as the listener favorite for three weeks in a row. They were also interviewed for the Untapped Talent column in the November 2005 issue of nationally distributed Tastes Like Chicken magazine, profiled in the Pasadena Weekly and featured in the Los Angeles Times' Buzz Bands column.
Ken Ramos, Shiloe's guitarist/lead singer and primary songwriter, started playing bass at the age of 13 and played in a number of bands throughout the years. Melissa Pleckham began playing guitar at the age of 14, but found her true passion was the bass. The two played in several different bands together from 2001-2004. Finally, they sought a drummer via Craigslist who was dedicated, lacked pretension, and actually enjoyed music more than showboating. This ad was answered by a girl-band veteran and drummer since the age of 14, Jenean Farris. She would not only fulfill their rhythmic wishlist, but also go on to elevate Shiloe's music to unprecedented levels with her creative beats.
The three began working on their self-produced and recorded demo in late spring. By October, they had released their first EP, Guardian Ear of the Radio Nurse, also fully self-produced and recorded. Now, armed with their arsenal of powerful, atmospheric and haunting songs, Shiloe is ready to increase their visibility in the public eye. Their music has been described as reminiscent of the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Joy Division and Radiohead, but their sound is unique and entirely their own.
Shiloe's members value the intensity and pure energy of live music above all else. After playing shows at various venues throughout the Los Angeles area - including the Knitting Factory, Spaceland and the Derby - Shiloe has recently begun playing on both a national and an international level. They have performed at Emo's in Austin, TX, where they opened for the Court and Spark and Pretty Girls Make Graves after finishing as a finalist in the Spin and CMJ sponsored Zig Zag Live Club Tour 2006, and in Mexico City, where they were invited to headline Radio Alterno's 2-year anniversary celebration in June. They now look forward to the winter 2007 release of their second EP, Please Remove Your Teeth From My Neck, and its accompanying West Coast tour, as well as playing with increasing frequency at a wider variety of venues both locally and abroad as they continue to develop and expand as a band.
