Description
"Into The Arms Of The Sea" The 12th Release from The Black Irish Band.
"Into The Arms Of The Sea" is the band's newest release, and is available in music stores throughout the mother lode area. The album contains sea chanteys, instrumentals, and ballads; 14 songs in all. Many of the works are about famous sailing & steam ships.
"They left their homes & loved ones far behind them. All were willing to take a chance with the ocean. Some had good reasons for leaving the safety of land. Many needed to find freedom in a new country while others searched for wealth and adventure. Whatever the reasons were, they all shared one common bond, they all risked their lives when journeying Into The Arms Of The Sea."
The Black Irish Band have been together for 15 years. The band to date have recorded 12 albums. The Black Irish was a perfect name fit for the band because of the music the band performs. The term Black Irish dates back hundreds of yesrs to the Spanish and Irish that inter-married. Just like the name, the Black Irish Band have performed all types of music with Irish, Italian, American, and Spanish roots at the core.
For the last five years the band have been recording and performing live shows about history. Their 8th ablum, "California Story", won many awards for original songs. One writer and performer on the album, Mary Youngblood, just won the Grammy Award in 2003 for Native American music.
History ballads have become the central point of many of the last band albums. The 11th release was an album based on the history of American Railroads ("Hear The Lonesome Whistle Blow"). This albums is in the 5th pressing and is the largest selling album in Western Railroad Museums. Golden Spike National Monument, in Utah, has alone sold over a thousand copies in the last two years.
The new 12th album, "INTO THE ARMS OF THE SEA", was just released in January of 2003. The album has been placed in almost every maritime museum in America with record sales. Mystic Seaport (Museum of America & the Sea) gave the album top reviews as well as many of the most noted maritime museums in America.
Irish Music Magazine said " This album is a true work of music history, a most creative gem".
Sing-Out Magazine said "This album is sound and watertight, just like all maritime music should be" a great isten! (more reviews at www.blackirish.com)
Music on this new album will take people on a trip to the open sea. All of the songs on the new album are rooted in American Maritime History. Patrick Michael Karnahan, the groups main songwriter, researched all the original songs in detail to make sure the facts were in order. The Black Irish Band perform many of the songs on time-period instruments (1800s). The album is a great story teller with romance and glory. If you like tall ships and a great tale, this is the album to buy! Great for the whole Family!
