Description
Robert (Rob) James, producer, songwriter and engineer, and Sandy (Tha Soul Brother) Anderson, bass player, musician, songwriter, began collaborating in 1996. In 1999 Rob and Tha Soul Brother produced two songs on the Proyecto Uno CD “Four”—(name songs). In 2002, they decided to produce their own CD---“Show Some Luv,” a 2 CD set—R&B and cool jazz.

THA SOUL BROTHER – SANDY ANDERSON
The Bronx-born Soul Brother, a gifted, versatile bass player and musician, can play any kind of music. His professional career began as a saxophone player and he became a local hero. Moving on to bass guitar, he eventually studied under Jaco Pastorius and Percy Jones. Over the years he has played with many successful artists:

REVIEWS OF DEBUT 2-CD SET, SHOW SOME LUV
Rob & Tha Soul Brother. “Show Some Luv.” Veteran Brooklyn bassist Sandy Anderson works overtime on his doubleCD debut with partner Rob James. Disc 1 marries hip-hop with Old School soul/funk, most notably on “Poppin’,” “It’s Gotta Be,” and “Change the World,” which ride Anderson’s in-your-face ’76 Jazz Bass. For Disc 2, he stretches out on his Conklin 7- and 9-strings. The results range from jazz-guitar-like excursions to sheer fretless bedlam on “Percy and Me,” with guest Percy Jones. –Chris Jisi,

…Disc 1 of the two CD set sounds like an “old school house party,… complete with foundation-shaking jams in the mode of Slave/P-Funk/Brick/Graham Central Station, etc., and basement sweatbox style slow jams in the mode of the Miracles. Disc 2 is an exercise in the construction and deconstruction of jazz designed for the people. In the tributes to both Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius, Sandy (Tha Soul Brother) sounds exactly like Wooten and Pastorius. …the heretofore unknown Rob & Tha Soul Brother’s self-produced debut displays a pair of R&B artists who are more than ready for wide exposure. We’re simply flabbergasted with the professionalism, upbeat attitude, and pure funk and soul delivered on this locally produced two-disc set. So refreshingly original and melodic are these 23 tracks that it boggles the mind. Where else can you find instrumental tracks that are tributes to legendary bassists in “JP” and “Loose Strings.” Other highlights include the autobiographical “Rob & Tha Soul Brother,” “Cosmic Soul,” and “Poppin’” another shocking aspect of this recording is the quality of the musicians featured. Tha Soul Brother is indeed a world-class bassist, and his work throughout the disc, not just on the instrumentals, proves his chops. Vocalist Rob has a way with a song and a lyric, and his sometimes romantic lyrics tug at the heart with actual passion and yearning, a real change from the “hey baby, you look fine, let’s do it” sentiment. Ron & Tha Soul Brother merge modern hip-hop beats and recording techniques with old school funk, soul, and even jazz to create an original sound that defies the listener not to get up and move.
