Description

Mark Holland is the leader of the world/progressive ensemble, Autumn's Child. "Songs From Within" features the
native American flute in a solo context. "Playing from the
heart" is what Mark Holland is known for and on this album
he exhibits just that! S.F.W. includes a total of 15 spontaneous items in traditional and contemporary styles.
A combination of single, double and triple chambered flutes
in various keys and woods are used on this recording.
Each flute has it's own voice and personality!
The overall energy and emotion of this cd is reminiscent of
early solo recordings of R. Carlos Nakai.
Track 3 is entitled, "Mr. Nakai" (a tribute)
Track 4 "In Hawk's Own Words" is in memory of the late
flute maker Hawk Little John. Each flute used to coincide
with each song title was carefully selected and then
created in the moment. Many reviewers have said that Holland
has mastered the native American flute. He has been perfoming and recording with native flutes since 1995.
He began with the silver flute in 1975 and studied with two
members of the St.Louis Symphony. His love for the family
of flutes led him to the native American flute where he has
recorded 8 cds to date with the native flute and performed
throughout the USA.
