Goettingen, Germany the year 1998
I had been in Germany 4 years at this point, the band LINE8 took a dive in late 1997 and it was time to move on. Drummer Ralf and bassist Tom from the local music scene's Surfin' Gods, GOD5 and das Rex Richter Quintett asked me if I would like to do some punk trash music and I said yes. Tom's WWW.OUT-O-SPACE.DE recording studio is a German legend and I wanted in the door. So we quickly rehearsed and recorded alot of songs and made this 15 track album.
PLASTIC JESUS : ONE DOLLAR
The name was derived from a plastic picture frame Jesus in MC's mom's front closet still wrapped in shrink wrap with a $1.00 sticker placed smack in the middle of the lucid Jesus' forehead. Being such an impressive sight the band and album were quickly named after this wonderful picture.
Due to an offer in mid-production Matt went on tour with Das Rex Richter Quintett and made all kinds of very fun cover music for great money. This is where MC paid his dues as a traveling minstral on the road for the next 3 1/2 years...he started taking long trips in the van and began flying to international gigs - Greece, Holland, Turkey and all over Germany - and this proved to feed the decay of all original output and drain any creative energy from the muse...
In these songs you can hear the beginning of MC's songwriting explosion as a babe in the music world with his teeth coming through the gums...and sinking them into the meat of the music without thinking, just doing whatever happened in the moment. There are moments of greatness in the 13 originals and 2 covers that line the path down the psyches of these 3 very different individuals.
This was, at the time, the best studio and well-seasoned musicians MC had ever played with. It marks a milestone in Cutillo's career and music.
