Description
Among the more collectible folk albums of the late fifties is The Tarriers self-titled LP that was released in April of 1957. Nearly a year and a half before The Kingston Trio's "Tom Dooley" swept to the top of the charts and turned the world of popular music on its ear, The Tarriers included an up tempo rendition of "Tom Dooley" on their debut LP along with a baker's dozen other songs that would become standards of the Folk Era yet to come. Propelled by their top charted hit, "The Banana Boat Song" (also included on the album), the Tarriers were in demand at clubs and concert halls, even appearing on Ed Sullivan's top rated TV show.
