Description
Rich Mattson is a rock and roll die-hard from northern Minnesota. He plays in 3 bands (most notably as the frontman of Minneapolis' Ol' Yeller), performs solo, and has owned and operated his own recording studios (Flowerpot, Sparta Sound) since 1991.
Since he picked up the guitar at age 13, Rich has written and recorded hundreds of his own songs. With 5 full-length albums from the Glenrustles (1988-1999) and 5 from Ol' Yeller, Inspiral Notebooks is Rich's first solo release. The challenge at this point in time was figuring out which songs to use...
Recordings are culled from late-night sessions dating from 1998 to February of 2007. Rich filled up his tracks with various guitars, drums, percussion, and sound effects. A few guests appear on the album; Dave Boquist plays the violin on "Big Mouth", brother Glen Mattson on the drums for the (almost) forgotten Glenrustles chestnut "All Over Me", and Brad Nelson drums on the song "1990".
