They join the legendary Willie P. Bennett and guest drummer Craig Bignell to capture the electricity generated nightly on stage. Producer Freddy Goldsmith harnesses the energy into a brilliant soundtrack. But the star, of course, is Fred Eaglesmith. Falling Stars and Broken Hearts features his most emotive vocals to date. From defiance to despair, nostalgia to anguish, and tenderness to wickedness, Eaglesmith aches and breaks, peaks and fades, and torches and twangs as he lifts heads one minute and buckles knees the next. Eaglesmith pours his soul into every syllable in a collection reminiscent of a cross-continental tour in his 1976 Prevost. 'Sugarcane, 'Cumberland County,' and 'I Wanna Buy Your Truck' showcase the exquisite interplay between Marin's guitars and Bennett's extraterrestrial electric mandolin. Other standouts include 'Indian Motorcycles,' perhaps the album's best song; and 'Dancin' on the Bar,' a pedal steel honkytonker that will bring tears to your ears.
