Description
Lara Herscovitch is a Connecticut-based independent singer-songwriter whose original music is a skillful blend and variety of folk, pop, and Latin, merging soulful melodies and insightful, intelligent, and humorous lyrics. Building on the success of her debut CD Sin Tierra (September 2000), her second CD (There) was released in November 2002.
You could care about Lara as a person, a social worker who has worked in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the U.S. on behalf of disadvantaged individuals. An independent singer-songwriter, she lives in Connecticut's New Haven area, where she founded la Rama ("the branch") Records. Designed as a socially responsible company, la Rama uses recycled products and donates 10% of all CD sales to nonprofit environmental organizations.
But probably you will learn to care about Lara's music, a skillful blend and variety of folk, pop, and Latin styles. Sin Tierra, her self-produced debut album, and There, her second CD co-produced with Pierce Campbell, is full of captivating melodies, great rhythm, and bilingual lyrics that are poetic, intelligent, insightful, and humorous. Her songs cover a wide range of topics from personal (Para Siempre, Home, Fool's Gold, Haunted Heart, Tired of Being Tenacious, El Que Sabe) to sociological / global (Bangladesh or Brooklyn, Island of Blissful Ignorance, Tequila Over Turkey, Leave it in the Landfill). Others have said:
"Lara Herscovitch is above and beyond the pack." -Northeast Performer;
"A great and refreshing sound. Mixing folk with Latin rhythm and English and Spanish lyrics will take her far." -Acoustic Caf;
"Herscovitch was one hell of a find..." -New Haven Advocate; and
